ASSISTANT DIRECTOR (SPEC Outreach)

Job Description

At the SPEC Centre we have a large residential team delivering a high number of programmes, retreats and outreach programmes to young people. We work closely with schools and parish groups. The majority of our work takes place in the SPEC Centre which accommodates up to 120 guests.

SPEC also works off-site particularly in school missions/outreach and retreat programmes.

In order to coordinate our Outreach Ministry and manage and lead our residential team of 2 programme leaders and 7 - 10 young volunteers, the Directors are seeking to employ an Assistant Director of outreach who can build on the excellent work of the previous assistants and enhance the Catholic Community aspect of life and work at the centre. This assistant will need to be a practicing Catholic deeply committed to nurturing young people and ready for a community lifestyle.

 

PERSON ESSENTIALS

  • Committed Roman Catholic
  • Experienced and gifted group facilitator
  • Willingness to live as part of a young lay community
  • Has an understanding of an holistic approach to Youth Ministry
  • Has relevant experience
  • Is organised and motivated
  • Ability to lead a team

Non-Essential/Preferred:

  • A keen interest in music and liturgy, or outdoor activities

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Co- Directors of SPEC

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Assistant Director (Outreach) will lead and coordinate SPEC Outreach in schools and parishes
  • The Assistant Director will be directly responsible for a proportion of residential and day programmes on site. They will be responsible for the development and presentation of a variety of sessions and para liturgies that will meet the needs of the young people.
  • The Assistant Directors will be responsible for the training of the team, to ensure they have the skills, abilities, professional standards and resources they need to deliver programmes
  • The Assistant Directors will give regular supervision to some team members
  • The Assistant Directors will represent SPEC at a variety of meetings and groups
  • The Assistant Directors will 'market' and promote the work of SPEC Centre, The Loft and Outreach teams, and others engaged in work with young people in the Diocese
  • The Assistant Director is a key member of the Management Core Group at SPEC
  • The Assistant Directors will promote the Catholic Ethos of SPEC and liaise closely with our Chaplains
  • The Assistant Director will promote the principles of Youth Work in all aspects of their work
  • The Assistant Directors will take responsibility for the Centre in the absence of the Directors
  • The Assistant Directors will liaise closely with all SPEC Centre staff to ensure smooth day to day team coordination
  • The Assistant Directors will keep a record of programmes and material for the purpose of monitoring, appraisals and future planning
  • The Assistant Director will be responsible for a living area of volunteers
  • The Assistant Director will maintain contacts with other agencies
  • The Assistant Director will work in an empowering role with young people and promote equal opportunities to volunteers and young people using the centre
  • The Assistant Director will need to carry out Risk Assessments of activities as required, and to ensure that full Health and Safety policies are adhered to.

SALARY

£15,000 - £21,000 dependent on experience and qualifications
