| From telegraph pole to cross: an inspiration from Brightlights 2006 becomes a permanent fixture at SPEC
Last year a huge cross made of old tree trunks provided a visual and spirtual focus for Brightlights 2006. This cross was only a temporary construction and inevitably had to come down, largely for health and safety reasons. However, the seed of and idea for a more permanent cross was sown and now that cross is a reality. The new cross is of a simple design and was contructed and erected (very efficiently) by chainsaw sculptor Brian Savill of 'EcoArb'. The cross was made from two old telegraph poles so we are expecting it to survive the elements for quite a few years. It has already become a place where individuals and the SPEC community visit for personal and community prayer and we hope that it will provide a similar focus to visitors to SPEC and, of course, for Brightlights 2007. |
