| I had organised a couple of them back in my own hometown in New Zealand. And guess what? The next thing I know, I’ve said that I would volunteer to run one on New Years Eve, here at Spec, for all the young adults of the diocese of Westminster! Just goes to show that you should be very careful when your boss asks you for ideas about something. It might just be you that has to make them happen!
So, the 31st of December rolled around, the decorations were up, the bar was stocked and the jazz band began to play! And what a night it was. We began the evening with Mass at 7pm and it had to be the best-dressed congregation Fr Chris had ever seen. Black ties and ball gowns! From there our guests made our way to the Great Hall of the Pastoral Centre, which looked beautiful.
There were amazing moves on the dance floor, some great air guitar and cocktails shaken. Everybody seemed to have a wonderful evening and all were in good voice for a countdown at midnight followed by a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne! I believe that the party continued well on after the clean up through till at least sun up! I must be losing my stamina.
And then we were off to bed. Almost all of our guests stayed over to really experience the Spec hospitality and a cooked breakfast the next day with lots of tea and coffee. Thank you so much, to all those who helped out in any way. And a very special thanks to all of you, who came along and made it such a great way to see in the New Year. Maybe we’ll see you again this December 31st!
