| Hello, my name is Eva-Maria and I’m from the Netherlands. I lived in Dordrecht – that’s a city near Rotterdam. I have studied carpentry, so at home I have a few tables and a chair with 5 legs! I worked as a construction supervisor in an office for two years. I was a Scout Leader in the Netherlands for 7 years. I led a group of girls between 7 and 11 years old. My favourite activity was summer camp. I was also the leader for the youth group in my church – I like to keep busy! In my spare time, I love to dance, read books, arts and crafts and playing games. Here at SPEC, I’m working in the Loft team and live at Loft Towers. Some of my hobbies, like playing games and being outside, I can do here too. I’m also finding new ones, like learning how to play the guitar. So far, I like to be at SPEC – living here is like living in a big family with lots of brothers and sisters. I look forward to meeting you too. | |

| | Czesc! Hello! Are you wearing a smile today? You Should. God loves you as you are and gave you another day to explore him. My name is Anne-Marie, although I have some spare names in case I run out of them. In Poland they used to call me Ania. On my passport I’m Anna Maria and many more variations. I come from Poland, a very interesting country in the heart of Europe. I have always wanted to study abroad and to speak English and somehow God has brought me here to SPEC. Some obvious things about me are; that I am crazy about cats. They appear in many of the pictures I shoot or paint. I especially like creating big pictures. It’s amazing how using colours and shapes, you can express the things, you cannot describe with words. Mountains! They are like water for fish; I cannot live without them. Even though I have no rhythm, I love to dance in my life. I like getting ready and being involved in enjoying a big Christian event, especially like one of ours, being ‘Bright lights’ which I invite all of you to come!God Bless and I hope to see you soon! | |
| Hi. My name’s Terence, and I love God. I’m absolutely, crazily, madly and passionately in love with God. He’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. I first found out about how great God was when on retreat when I was ten, during a two hour silence. The profound peace that I got from that time stayed with me for months, and I decided that I wanted more than anything else the opportunity to share that experience with others. That’s why I have the joy of working here with these beautiful people telling everyone how great God is. Hurrah. If you met me, you would remember me as the slightly unusual scary one with lots of energy and a big grin, and probably a guitar. If you met me, you would also get to hear about my beautiful Polish girlfriend, who is wonderful. What’s my greatest fear? Good question. Probably that I’ll be standing behind John Paul II in the queue at the pearly gates and I overhear St.Peter telling him that he should have done more. | |

| | Hi, my name is Sebastian. I'm from Germany and I doing a voluntary service for one year. I just finished my Abitur, the university entrance degree in Germany ( the German equivalent for the A- level). Some facts about me: I like being outdoors, it doesn' t really matter what to do there. I like playing football and Indiaca ( I guess you don't know what " Indiaca" is; it's quite similar to volleyball, if you want to know more about it just google a bit.) I try to go jogging regularly and I love hiking, climbing and skiing in the mountains. I also like playing all sorts of board games and sometimes reading.
Why am I here; good question. After school I didn't want to go straight away to university and sit again somewhere and study, but I wanted to do a practical meaningful thing, and I looked for a new challenge. Many friends also had plans to do a voluntary service abroad or just had come back from a voluntary service and were very, very enthusiastic about it. So I went abroad as well and here I am. I did a lot of different kinds of Christian youth work in my home before, so I am very pleased to get the opportunity to continue doing it here. I enjoy my work at the Loft team and the community with the other volunteers from England and the rest of the world; and I'm grateful to God for being here.

Hello everyone!
I'm Emelie, I'm 18 years old and come from Sweden. This is my first year working at SPEC, my first year living in England and basicly my first year living by my self. Well, "by my self" might not be right way to put it, considering I live with over 20 other people in this community, but my first year living away from home. And so far, so good I must say - I really like it here! The work we do with the children is great and I feel that I in the Loft really have found the place where I am supposed to be this year. :)
And here are some short things about me:
- I love travelling and one of my goals in life is to see as many exiting places as possible. So far I've been to a couple of interesting places like San Francisco and LA in USA, Pretoria in South Africa and on the top of Mount Snowdon in Wales (yes, for me that qualifies as exiting)
- I'm extremly afraid of birds. All kinds. And I mean really afraid. I don't know where this come from but all birds scare me, and pigeons freak me out. Let's just say that Trefalgar Square isn't my favorite place in the world...
- I love making lists. I organize my whole life with lists and timetables and don't understand how people survive without daily to-do-lists. Just the other day I got a letter from my best friend saying (and this is a quote) "Oh no, I did a to-do-list today - I've turned in to you!" Haha, one day us listmakers will take over the world! :D
So that's me everybody! Ha det bra och simma lugnt! (look it up
| | Hi, Everyone!! I'm Myung jin, Lee. I'm from South Korea. But I think you won't be good at pronouncing my name. So I decided to use my Christian name which is Clara. You can call me Clara :) Well, there are few things about me. First, I love spicy food. Especially I love Kimchi very much. It's a Korean food made out of cabbage with some spice souce. It's unbelievable to live without Kimchi because normally the Korean eat Kimchi everyday. Now you can guess how much hard it's for me to be here. Anyway, Second, I'm really interested in making film, one of my favorite genre is documentary. I used to make film since I was in high school, and I've got some prize from International Youth film festival in Ohio and Hollywood(USA). I'm very proud of my film. Third, I try to follow teaching of Jesus. I've been to Mongolia, East-Timor in Indonesia, and Nepal to do voluntary work. I've learnt lots of things through those experiences. There are lots of people who needs help. First time when I've been working in Mongolia, I thought I can give something for them (money, stuff..etc). But I've received lots of love from native children and their parents rather than giving. I realized that I am wealthier than them in only financial way. And also if I say I believe that God is our father, it means people who have suffering should be my brothers and sisters. and that can be a reason why I have to help and pray for them. Last, I like to experience a whole bunch of new things. It would be more fabulous if it's gonna be kind of challenge. When I face with some tricky things, I try to figure them out through the hardness. And after that I can feel that I've got to be stronger. This fact can explain why I came here. It isn't easy to settle and work in U.K. Even my English is not good. But as I already mentioned to you, I like to face with challenges. So even it's not easy, I can enjoy here. I don't want to say it's just fabulous to live here as a community. There are lots of challenges to work with various people. But I can say that would be a reason why living in SPEC community is so valuable. If you want to have such a nice time, I would recommend you to come and join us. Thank you!! ! | |

Joy and Peace! My name is Magdalena, I’m from the Czech Republic. My favourite saint, St. Francis of Assisi, inspired my life by his simplicity, humility, joyfulness, gratefulness love for creation, and of course inspired me to follow Jesus. I am trained as a teacher for children aged 4 – 8, but I don’t like teaching. I enjoy ‘playing’ with the children and with young people. I prefer after-school activities, mostly outdoors. I love to run in the mountains and gaze at the sunrise and the sunset. I like travelling, discovering new cultures and meeting new people. My hobbies are an assortment of art and crafts. After the experiences of living in four communities (Community in my college, St.Patrick’s Evangelisation School/SPES, Sion Community and currently SPEC) I enjoy community life; it helps me to think deeply about my selfishness and to grow in love; it has helped me to learn how to understand many different people and how to serve others; it helps me to be close to God. I’m happy to be here! This life with God and with so many unique people is a big adventure! You are welcome to be a part of this adventure as well!
